Movement Space is an accredited ‘Studio Instructor’ with the PAA (Pilates Association Australia), a comprehensively trained teacher of the Pilates Method.

How it all began

Movement Space was born in 2013 with its first studio opening in Glen Iris, Victoria offering Mat Classes. A sea change was calling for Naomi & her family & in 2017 one of Victoria’s first True Contrology Studio’s opened in the heart of Cowes, Phillip Island.

Movement Space’s Mission is to preserve & coach the True Contrology System to the community of Phillip Island.

What is Contrology


Joseph Pilates, the founder of what is now known as the Pilates exercise method, initially named his method “Contrology” believing it focused on the total coordination of body, mind & spirit.

Contrology consists of a set of traditional exercises designed by Joe, performed in the specific sequence he devised for both the mat & reformer, with a comprehensive system that connects to all the other apparatus:  The Reformer | Mat | Cadillac |Wunda Chairs |Arm Chair |High Chair | Spine Correctors | Ladder Barrel | Tower | Swedish Bars | Tower | Small Apparatus | Ped-o-Pul.

Naomi is a 3rd Generation teacher to Joseph Pilates & believes that doing the traditional Contrology method, truly crafts the body & mind into balance, alignment & strength. It is a method that you delve into for a lifetime.

The Method


Joseph Pilates designed a set order of exercises along with a set number of repetitions on the Mat & Reformer which are generated to warm up the body, challenge it & be ready to move onto other apparatus around the studio to enhance the workout, help strengthen the body, stretch out tight areas & as always finishing the workout on a winner!  The method is available to all levels, a Beginner (Foundation), Intermediate (physically available & suitably challenging), Advanced (an overall good, strong & challenging level), Super-Advanced (offering that extra challenge for the super strong & elite athletes).

Stamina, strength, flexibility & stability should all be challenged in clients that are members of the Movement Space Community. Individuals with pathologies or special cases still face a challenge, but their condition is considered during the workout.

Contrology is an infinite body of work that will be continually challenged throughout our lives!
